Lead with compassion this holiday season – support animals like Olive!
It was a cold day in April when Aliyah, one of our animal care assistants, encountered a truly stunning and heartbreaking sight. On a walk across their property, she and her family saw an emaciated dog struggling to remove her head from a large, metal pipe. After managing to free her, Aliyah knew the dog had been trapped for some time; she was frightened, wounded, and suffering from several painful infections. Aliyah and her sister rushed the pup to the League’s San Luis Valley Animal Center in Alamosa, where she received much-needed nourishment, initial treatment, and a brand new name: Olive.
Nearly three days later, Olive was transferred to our Leslie A. Malone Center for specialized care. In Denver, she was also placed in the loving foster home of one of our veterinary technicians, Alexis, who helped her thrive, gain weight, and feel more confident to share her sweet personality. Once she was strong enough, Olive was made available for adoption – and it didn’t take her long to find a soulmate in Tilley. Today, Olive’s world is entirely transformed. She and Tilley love cuddling, playful walks in Wash Park, and dancing to their own kind of music. “Adopting Olive is definitely the best decision I have ever made,” Tilley shared.
