Like other animal shelters in the Denver Metro area, the Dumb Friends League is filled to a level it hasn’t seen in a decade, and is seeking the community’s help in giving these animals a loving home.

Members of the community can help provide dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs with homes. Having a new, cuddly family member might also be the perfect way to make your Colorado winter merry and bright.

“We know Denver is a community full of people who love pets,” said Dr. Apryl Steele, President and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “If you’re in a position to bring a new pet into your family, now is a great time, and your choice will have more impact than ever. We can’t do this critical work without your help.”

To encourage adoptions, some fees at the League have been discounted or waived, including adoptions for adult cats being reduced to $10.

And while adoption is key to helping animals and shelters, it isn’t the only way.

  • You can foster a homeless pet by providing short-term care and temporary housing. Serving as a foster parent gives an animal a loving home until a more permanent placement can be arranged while also making room at the shelter for another animal in need.
  • You can volunteer in various capacities at the League and at many local shelters around the region.
  • You can make animal welfare the focus of your next career! Many area shelters, including the League, are hiring for exciting positions – from direct animal care to administrative roles.

If you need help rehoming your pet and your situation isn’t urgent, please consider delaying taking your pet to the League for the next few weeks. The League, like many area shelters, also has resources that could help you keep your pet with your family.
